The Aviary Dessert Kitchen

Bonsoir! It has definitely been a wet and cold day today in Adelaide - perfect to be indoors and enjoying a cup of hot tea (or coffee in my case!). Well anyways, this will be my first review for one of the rad new dessert places which opened not long ago in Norwood, Adelaide (I've attached the location below).

After hearing all the positive reviews, my friends and I decided that we must visit this new dessert place (after all, who could resist dessert!). So here are some of the desserts we had:

Green tea matcha latte
The green tea was a bit much (one of my friends said that her previous experience with it was better) - they added WAY too much green tea powder, thus leaving a residue of 'grittiness' in the mouth - not very pleasant.

Hot chocolate fondant
I didn't really taste this one, but my friend said it was not bad - personally it would have been better if the chocolate actually "oozed" more, but that's just me being picky.

Apple crumble with cinnamon ice-cream, along with green tea matcha latte
The apple crumble was delicious I must say! The "crumble" was rather clever, unique and delicate. The cinnamon ice-cream was bellissimo. Highly recommend this dessert!

"Flourless pecking plate" - flourless chocolate cake, apple and pomegranate panna cotta, salted caramel macaroon and peanut butter macaroon
As I wasn't too sure what to get, one of my friends decided that the two of us should share a platter for 2. The flourless chocolate cake was indeed unique - I've previously tried a flourless peanut butter cake, but the texture was quite interesting; it was actually quite moist and not 'difficult' to eat at all. The macaroons were not bad (preferred the salted caramel one; peanut butter taste was not powerful enough). The panna cotta was quite nice though. The tartness from the Granny Smith apples and the slight acidity/sweetness of the pomegranate balanced out the sweet panna cotta very well (definitely another one of my favourites for the night, following closely after the apple crumble).

Overall, the presentation is very acceptable - really liked the way the apple crumble was done. It is a nice little joint, though if you decide to go late at night (say around 10pm-ish), I highly recommend that you make a booking before you go especially for bigger groups, as it could get very busy!

Feel free to comment if you have been to the Aviary.

Au revoir!
